Rogers Group Financial was founded in 1973 by Jim Rogers, so we are about to celebrate our 40th year in business!

What else was happening in 1973?

Pierre Trudeau was the Prime Minister and Dave Barrett was our premier. Work had started on the CN Tower in Toronto.

On the international scene, 1973 was the year of the Yom Kippur War - which led to the oil embargo and the deep recession of 1974 and 1975. It was a year that US politics were in turmoil. (Some things never change.) The Watergate trials started, Richard Nixon uttered the famous phrase “I am not a crook,” and US Vice President Spiro Agnew had to resign for tax evasion. This was also the year that the US finally withdrew from Vietnam, ending their involvement in that conflict.

The Dow Jones was at 850. The average price of a new house was $27,000 in Canada, and our average annual income was $12,000.

Popular movies of the year were Deliverance, The Sting and Live and Let Die. The shows we were watching on TV were The Odd Couple, Columbo, M*A*S*H and The Waltons (“Goodnight Johnboy”).

Over the past 40 years, up to 3 generations of clients have been served by our firm. Some are now fully retired, others are assisting their children/grandchildren with their educations and still others have passed on and have left a financial legacy to their children, grandchildren and charities.

We have assisted business owners plan an orderly exit from their firms and transfer their businesses to the next generation.

Not only have we helped and seen all these changes with our clients, we’ve also successfully had many of these changes occur at our own firm– we like to take our own advice.

Through it all, we have been driven to using a planning approach to making our clients’ financial goals a reality for them.

We’ve adapted our advice and our services based on changes in the environment and on the always dynamic economic realities – including 6 recessions and 11 stock market corrections in the past 40 years. While many things change over time, other things stay the same. For example, the success of our firm is based on the trust and loyalty of our clients. Most come to us through referrals and if we hope to be around another 40 years, we need to make sure our existing clients are happy and successful in achieving their financial goals in order for our firm to also be successful.

Thank you for your ongoing trust and loyalty. We will endeavor to deliver another 40 years of great service.
