Summer has a way of creating a little more space in our lives. It gives us opportunities to slow down, spend time with family and friends, enjoy the outdoors, and chase some fun experiences.
This summer, I was reminded of this, albeit in a different way. A couple of months ago, I had a fairly trivial cycling crash, but it resulted in two broken fingers. It was nothing serious, and I realize that many people face far greater challenges, but even a relatively minor injury can change your perspective. Things I had taken for granted suddenly became more difficult, and some of my favourite summer activities were put on hold.
I am now returning to those activities, and I find myself appreciating them in a different way. The same bike ride, hike, or round of golf feels that bit more enjoyable. Frankly, even typing with both hands feels great!
It has been a good reminder that the things we value most are often not the milestones, but the everyday experiences and the freedom to do the things we love.
And ultimately, that is why we plan.
Financial planning is not simply about accumulating assets or achieving a certain number on a statement. Sure, those things matter, but they are only part of the story. The real purpose of planning is to create the confidence and freedom to live the life you want and to focus your time and energy on what matters most.
Looking back on the first half of 2026, the economic environment has continued to present both opportunities and challenges. Inflation continues to moderate, interest rates remain in focus, and businesses and consumers continue to adapt to a changing landscape. Markets have also reminded us that uncertainty is a normal part of investing.
There will always be headlines that create concern. Our role is not to predict every twist and turn in the economy or markets… because no one can do that consistently. Our role is to remain focused on the things we can control… maintaining a thoughtful plan, managing risk, and making sound decisions that support the goals and lifestyle you have worked hard to create.
If your goals and lifestyle remain the same, short-term market movements deserve very little attention. A well-designed plan has uncertainty in mind and is intended to navigate both the challenges and opportunities that come along.
As we move through the summer months, I hope you have the opportunity to enjoy the moments that matter most to you—time with family, great conversations, travel, hobbies, and experiences that put a smile on your face!
Those moments and experiences are why we do the planning we do!
Thank you for the trust you place in me and my team. We are grateful to be part of your journey, and in the days ahead we look forward to hearing about your summer adventures.
All the best,
Bryson
